Other > Create a Lightroom Catalog

Before you can start using Lightroom, you have to create a Lightroom catalog.

The Lightroom catalog stores your organizing and editing instructions.

1) Open Lightroom.

One of two things will happen.

Thing #1

Lightroom opens.

In the upper-left corner of your screen, go to File > New Catalog (photo 2 below).

Thing #2

The Lightroom catalog was not found window opens (photo 3 below).

Click Choose a Different Catalog.

At the bottom of the next window that appears (photo 4 below), click Create a New Catalog.

2) The Create Folder With New Catalog window opens.

3) On the left side of the window, scroll down to Pictures (Windows) or Desktop (Mac).

4) Click it to open it up.

5) In the File name box enter:

Lightroom Catalog

6) Click Save in the lower-right corner of the window.

7) Lightroom opens your newly created catalog.

The catalog is in the folder, Lightroom Catalog, in Pictures (Windows) or Desktop (Mac).

1) Plug in your flash drive.

2a) The Import window may open (photo 1 below).

If it does, in the lower-right corner, click Cancel.

Then, in the upper-left corner of your screen, go to File > New Catalog (photo 2 below).

2b) If the Import window doesn't open, open Lightroom.

One of two things will happen.

Thing #1

Lightroom opens.

In the upper-left corner of your screen, go to File > New Catalog  (photo 2 below).

Thing #2

The Lightroom catalog was not found window opens (photo 3 below).

Click Choose a Different Catalog.

At the bottom of the next window that appears (photo 4 below), click Create a New Catalog.

3) The Create Folder With New Catalog window opens. 4) On the left side of the window, scroll down to your flash drive.

5) Click it to open it up.

6) In the File name box enter:

Lightroom Catalog

7) Click Save in the lower-right corner of the window. 8) Lightroom opens your newly created catalog.

The catalog is in a folder, Lightroom Catalog, on your flash drive.

Photo 1: Import Window

Click Cancel.

Photo 2: Go to File > New Catalog.

Photo 3: Click Choose a Different Catalog.

Photo 4: Click Create a New Catalog

Check the Location of the Catalog

Press Ctrl + Alt + , (Windows) or Cmd + Option + , (Mac).

The Catalog Settings window opens.

Click the General tab.

Look for Location.

Make sure the catalog is in the correct location.
